Wifi mouse catchers, Sniffer dogs to catch bed bugs and Rat tail resistance tests. Welcome to PestEx 2019 Pest Control Exhibition.

PestEx Conference
PestEx Conference

We recently attended PestEx 2019 at the London ExCel centre. Held every 2-years, The PestEx exhibition is the UK’s conference for the pest control industry.

Pest Control Bristol at PestEx 2019

Here at The Bristol Pest Controller it’s a definite must do on our calendar. And believe it should be for any other pest control Bristol company. We know how important it is to stay connected with all the latest products and news. We’re in an ever-changing in our industry, changing laws and regulations focused around pesticides and stewardship.

We also like to attend PestEx for the endless amounts of information available through the unrivalled technical business seminar schedule. Topics this year ranged from invasive non-native species, cockroach foraging behaviour and biology plus rodent control challenges and solutions. We also attended a talk on bed bugs, outlining new findings on how to detect these unwanted sleeping partners. Plus a talk on 10 years of rat and mouse control procedures and protecting Jersey from Asian hornets.

Wifi mouse traps

Also on show were innovative products like a new wifi based mouse and rat trap. The makers of Square Rat and Square Mouse claim it takes less than 60 seconds to install on any site that has Wi-Fi. Left onsite 24/7 in a commercial or domestic setting, pest controllers such as ourselves at The Bristol Pest Controller will be alerted through software on our phones or computers.  This could be one of three things: a catch, something has triggered, but no catch or no activity at all. This benefits the customer and the pest control company as there is less time spent checking traps when nothing has changed. This leaves the customer and the company to spend their valuable time doing better more productive things.

This new technology can also be implemented with sticky boards which are hugely effective against mice. These sticky boards use glue for the control of rodents come under a strict Best code of practice for the ‘Safe use of Glue Boards’. They should be checked at a minimum every 12 hours for humane dispatch. With the ‘Square’ this could be alerted to our smart phone when something is caught without the need for regular checks – saving valuable time and money.

Bed bug sniffer dogs
Bed bugs sniffer dogs

Interestingly we met with a pest control company who specialises in implementing sniffer dogs to detect bed bugs hiding within accommodation and bedrooms. As cute as it was to stroke the dogs at the show, it was more impressive to know that the dog has been specially trained to sniff out bed bugs.  The dogs will go straight to the location of the bed bugs where as a technician could take several hours to find the nest and hiding spots. This innovation is a clever use of the dogs. Saving customers’ time and money as well as enhancing the reputation of the pest control Bristol company.

New resistance rat testing

Did you know? If you suspect there is resistance to rodenticide poisons among any rats in your area we can find this out by testing the rats tails in the laboratory. If we can find a rat that has died recently on your site by either poisoning or trapping we can save the tails and have them examined and tested in the laboratory of the pest control Bristol company.
