How to get Rid of Bed Bugs Fast?
The tell-tale sign for identifying bed bugs will be irritating red bites, typically in rows on your neck, torso, legs, arms, back or shoulders.
Bed bugs themselves are typically found around the structure of your bed or on the seams of the mattress. They will appear to look like black ink dots or small patches of mould in a cluster. You’re most likely to feel the bites in the morning, which will feel irritating and scratchy.

Where do Bed Bugs Live?
Adult bed bugs will live in furniture and soft furnishings in and around your bed, which will be close to the host (human) who is sleeping. The female bed bug lays her eggs in places which is close to the host. Being blood sucking insects they will require a blood meal to survive. These pests are nocturnal and will only emerge at night. They are attracted to the warm temperatures coming from under the bed sheets and the carbon dioxide in your breath.

I Require a Treatment Service for Bed Bugs in Bristol, is this something The Bristol Pest Controller can Assist with?
If you’re living within the Bristol area we can carry out an inspection for you if you’re unsure you have bed bugs in the first instance. We’ll then identify a suitable treatment plan for you.
We’ll spray all of your belonging during the treatment using super-heated dry heat, that gets to temperatures of 180°C. The heat will kill the bed bugs with a ‘heat shock’ effect. Immediately after the heat treatment we’ll follow-up with a professional chemical spray on all the surfaces. The infestation is unlikely to be completely eradicated by using chemical sprays alone. Super-heated dry heat kills bed bugs at all life stages including the eggs. These bed bug eggs aren’t normally killed by chemical sprays alone. Our heat treatment is may take several hours to complete in each individual room depending how many belongings you have. Please be aware that in some case you might not be able to sleep in the bed for a night after the treatment and the room will need to be vacated for a minimum of 4 hours.

How can I Prevent Further Bed Bug Infestations? Can you Remove Bed Bug Infested Items?
To prevent the number of bed bugs increasing you can remove infested furniture, like torn mattresses. However, generally this is not necessary unless we specify. If you”re based in Bristol we’re more than happy to help you get rid of unwanted items, just call the office to arrange careful removal.
Before moving into a new accommodation, it is always best to check the property thoroughly for bed bugs; like-wise if you know you have recently stayed in a bed bug infested bedroom then you should check all your luggage and clothes to remove the adult and egg stages of the bed bugs.
Once your treatment has been completed we’d recommend that you wash all your bedding and clothing on a hot wash at 60°C to reduce the risk of them coming back. Alternatively you can put them on a high temperature setting in the tumble dryer for at least 30 minutes. If you’re not able to do this you can put your items in a bag in a deep freezer for at least 3 days. This would also kill the bed bugs and eggs.
Do I sleep in a Bed Bug Infested Room?
The problem with bed bugs is that they will come looking for a feast. If you sleep in another room close by to the infestation, it’s highly likely that they will follow you. This could potentially spread the infestation into an untreated room. Unfortunately, sleeping in the same room is the best call of action, this will help us monitor their activity.
This does present the risk of being bitten, if you are having adverse effects to the bites it may be worth considering staying at an alternative premise until the technician has declared the area free of bed bugs Bristol.
