How can Variegated Carpet Beetle harm me?

The adult stages of Variegated Carpet Beetle can become a serious nuisance when large numbers of them start erupting from their cracks and crevices. They are unsightly and make people feel anxious with their presence although they will not bite human beings. On the other hand we have found quite the opposite with the larval stage of the insect. The texture of the larvae is very prickly and hairy for defending themselves against predators. We have found people suspect they have an infestation of Bed bugs but in actual fact after carrying out our inspection it’s revealed to be larvae of Variegated Carpet Beetle. The damage that can be caused to fabrics in domestic homes or businesses like museums can have costly effects with serious implications to precious artefacts.
