Section 54 of the UK Modern Slavery Act (2015) requires commercial organisations operating in the UK with an annual turnover in excess of £36m to produce a ‘slavery and human trafficking statement for each financial year of the organisation’. Although we’re not required to do this, we have taken the decision to provide the following statement because we believe modern slavery is a global issue that needs to be addressed.

Introduction

The Bristol Pest Controller was set up 15 years ago by Giles Sharley to support the eradication of pests in Bristol and its surrounding areas. He started his career in pest control long before that, working for a company in Devon. Over recent years the company has developed into a small team of truly exceptional pest controllers.

The Bristol Pest Controller have been awarded a number of accolades; our most recent award ‘Small Company of the Year’ given to us by the British Pest Control Association has been our proudest achievement. It’s so rewarding to know that our hard work and passion has been recognised by such a prestigious organisation. We are continuing our efforts to raise awareness of pest issues in Bristol.

The Bristol Pest Controller team

The team at the Bristol Pest Controller is made up of 6 people, based in, and around the Bristol area. The team are responsible for attending domestic and commercial properties to carry out Pest Control and Fumigation services. The Bristol Pest Controller operates throughout the UK and works with a huge range of different organisations.

Who has responsibility for anti-slavery initiatives

The team are all responsible for raising any concerns about modern slavery or human trafficking throughout their daily routines, if they have any concerns these are raised to the Managing Director, Giles Sharley and will be handled responsibly.

Supply chain

As of January 2023, the Bristol Pest Controller has 10 key supplies that are used to provide the necessary supplies in order to carry out routine Pest Control and Fumigation Services. These supplies have been selected as they provide products and services aligned with our views on addressing the global issue of slavery and human trafficking. We continue to work with supplies based in European countries that have a low predominance of slavery outlined on the Global Slavery Index

Risk assessment & KPIs

Modern slavery is complex and very well hidden, that is why we’re developing our risk assessment to ensure we’re able to identify any issues through setting up our business contracts and working with our suppliers.

  1. We’ll continue to review our supply chain to identify any possible risks connected to modern slavery and human trafficking.
  2. We are committed to a high standard of social and environmental responsibility and will continue to work with suppliers that hold the same values.
  3. We’ll develop specific training sessions on modern slavery, including awareness-raising of the signs of modern slavery and information on how to raise complaints within the company.
  4. Our team will continue to report any concerns in relation to slavery and human trafficking.

As we continue to grow as an organisation we’ll continue to develop our focus on raising awareness of modern slavery and human trafficking.

Giles Sharley, Managing Director.
