If you store your product under a gas-proof tarp this is considered as a ‘stack’. Stack Fumigation is the fumigation of these goods and it takes place within this contained space underneath the tarp. This is a suitable solution for those who require fumigation for raw and finished goods, packaging and materials. We can treat these goods effectively under a gas-proof sheet or sheets to completely eliminate pest infestations including the pests themselves and any eggs they might leave behind. We can treat palletised and bulk goods in situ providing an adequate risk area can be maintained. We can undertake our pest fumigation service in as little as a few cubic meters to tens of thousands of cubic meters of product and produce in one go.

Many of our clients who require a stack fumigation service are those who store pallets of goods within warehouses. No matter the size or scale of the project, The Bristol Pest Controller has you covered.

How do you Fumigate a ‘Stack’?

The Fumigation of a stack is commonly done using phosphine gas, which is one of the most common fumigation methods regardless of industry or size of the job. The use of phosphine gas destroys all traces of insects, pests and their eggs, ensuring the long-term safety and viability of your stock, no matter the product, size or scale of the project. The pallet or stack of goods is isolated typically for up to 7 days, although occasionally up to 14 days depending on the severity of contamination and the type of environment used to store your stack.

A high quality sheet and seal for the phosphine gas is crucial when fumigating your stack, so that gas concentrations become high enough to kill insects, as well as ensuring that any leaks do not infringe on any health and standards expected in your storage. Furthermore, this will help prevent the development of phosphine resistance that can result from exposure from small but not lethal levels of the gas. Lastly, phosphine gas is used because it is highly efficient way of penetrating container materials such as cardboard. Our fumigation solution will penetrate the stackt all the way to the centre, destroying the harder to reach insects and fests as well and their eggs, so you can be confident that your stack is left 100% contamination free.

The Bristol Pest Controller ensures careful sheet placement, and uses high quality tarps that are thick enough to contain the gas over time. Generous ‘sandsnakes’ are laid across the sheet margins to facilitate gas-tight junctions. The focus is on eliminating all pests within the stack while at the same time protecting individuals from exposure to leaking gas.

At the end of the treatment

The phosphine gas is removed through forced ventilation via ducting which moves the harmful concentrations out of the fumigation area and dispersed into free air space away from working areas, ensuring the safety of your workers particularly if fumigation treatment is performed in a small or busy warehouse. Once we are confident that fumigation of your stack or pallet has been successful, we will then undertake a gas reading to ensure there are no dangers to health and safety. This is done in accordance to OES (Occupational Exposure Standards) and the legal Maximum Exposure Limit. (MEL). On completion you will receive gas free clearance and certificate of fumigation documentation for your records.
